About Donkey Kong Country

The older computer games generally used to revolve around popular cartoon characters or kid movies. One of the very popular computer games was Donkey Kong Country. This really brings back memories for most of the children who played this game when it was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems in 1994.

The object of the Donkey Kong Country game is to recover bananas stolen by the Kremlins. It goes up to 39 levels, each of them having a different theme and requiring different skills like swimming, climbing, swinging from vines or jumping over mines. If you get hit by any enemy or fall off the screen you die. Of course the objective of the player is to avoid getting killed and to hoard as many lives as they can get, by collecting bananas strewn all over the game, collecting letters that spell K O N G, golden animal tokens and also the extra life balloons.

There are even bonus levels and secret passages. The idea is to go through as many bonus levels, take help from many animals that assist the player. There is Enguarde the Swordfish who assists you while you swim under water, Squawks the Parrot helps you through the cave.

You get to be Donkey Kong or you can be Diddy Kong as per the situation. Donkey Kong is huge and he is strong. When you want to annihilate your opponents you would like to be Donkey. Diddy is agile and fast. He can run through situations and take opponents out too, with a perfectly executed cartwheel.

The game controls are easy, very familiar to those who have played other platform games. There is one button that can make Donkey or Diddy move, jump etc, another that can make them roll, climb, throw barrels and pound enemies. Yet another button helps you to switch identity from Donkey to Diddy and vice versa. For people who are already used to playing platform games it is simple, even getting your characters to ride different animals!

You have the option of playing alone or with a friend. The choice is there between playing as a team or contesting with each other. However the team play is more fun as one can be Donkey and another player can be Diddy. In contest mode one player plays through a level and then the other one takes the control. This involves waiting which is not so much fun.

For a person who has spent summer holidays actually going to game arcades and playing this game, writing about it has brought back nostalgic memories. One can even remember other members of the Kong family like Cranky Kong, Candy, Funky and the Kremlings. It is wonderful to see this game being offered as a free online game at internet sites.
